Proficiency of the Sony PlayStation3

February 27, 2009

The Sony PlayStation3 is ideal if you want to relax at home and play a game of Killzone 2 with friends online. Connect the PS3 to your broadband connection and play all you want. My personal favorite is the PlayStation3 that comes in black. The PlayStation3 console has a built-in high definition Blu-ray player to give you a great gaming experience. So whether you are a movie buff or a diehard fan of PS3 games, you can be rest assured that your Sony PlayStation3 offers a good return for your money. You can also store your favorite pictures, music, and videos. It’s simply a space of your own, where you can do all the fun things that gaming urges you to do.

It’s great to be part of the PS3 community. Among the loads of games available, I prefer new PS3 games, like Resistance: Fall of Man, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom, and Ridge Racer 7. Not just this. The PlayStation 3 console can play almost all games designed for PS2. The brand new PlayStation3 cell processor is the icing on the cake. With your PlayStation Network account you can also gain access to online gaming, friends, downloadable games, movies & TV shows, and much more. Along with the graphics provided by the NVIDIA RSX ‘Reality Synthesizer’, it makes the PlayStation3 a fantastic version of Sony’s most popular game. The Sony PlayStation3 may be pricey, but trust me; it’s worth all the money.

The Strangest MP3 Players

February 27, 2009

There are MP3 players, and then there are MP3 players. Manufacturers, in their effort to edge out the competition, come out with stranger and stranger looking MP3 players every other day. According to me, the strangest five MP3 players of the world today are:

• MP3 Toilet

• PEZ MP3 Player

• Scented MP3 Player

• Clip Type MP3 Player

• Teddy Bear MP3 Player

Let me describe each of them for you.

mp3-playerThe strangest of the lot is the MP3 Toilet. Not that it is an MP3 player designed like one. It is a SD Memory-based player that works along with your toilet. To ease the pressure out? One wonders. It attaches to the wall above the toilet and has a special receiver that goes under the seat.

The PEZ MP3 player is another MP3 player that competes with the MP3 Toilet for the top spot in the list. It may look like a PEZ dispenser but, upon a closer, it reveals a 3.5mm stereo mini jack complete with music keys to enable you to play some music. Though it weighs just 0.78 ounces, it comes with 512 MB memory.

Scented MP3 players in different fragrances, such as lemon, chocolate, rose, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, etc. are another unusual creation. They can even be customized to reek of your favorite body odor—of your beloved green pig or of his tennis socks. Phew to that! Then there is the Clip Type MP3 player for people who want to carry their music along with them wherever they go. It is heaven-sent for those who just can’t remember where they left their MP3 player. It can be clipped onto your shirt, collar, tie, pocket, purse, anything. What’s more, it resembles a clip too.

Last but not the least is the MP3 player designed to resemble a teddy bear. The cute-looking Teddy Bear MP3 player might be itsy-bitsy with its tiny little keys. But the little thing comes with a 128 MB built-in memory.

Blu-ray – The Future of Home Entertainment

February 21, 2009

On February 19, 2002, nine leading electronic companies came out with an announcement that they were the “Founders” of the Blu-ray Disc. It has been seven years since that announcement was made. With so much said about Blu ray, have you ever wondered what the fuss is all about. This post traces the Blu-ray technology history and what the future holds for it.

What is Blu-ray? Blu-ray or Blu-ray Disc is the next generation of optical disc format. The main purpose of developing Blu-ray technology was to enable recording, rewriting, and playback of high-definition video (HD). It is also possible to store large data. In fact, it can store up to 25 GB on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual-layer disc, making it five times higher in storage capacity compared to traditional DVDs.

Founders: In 2002, nine electronics giants namely, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung, claimed that they were the “Founders” of the Blu-ray Disc. The name was later changed to “Blu-ray Disc Association” on May 18, 2004 to include new members. At present, the Blu-ray Disc Association has 18 members in the Board of Directors and several other contributors and supporters. This includes all major Hollywood studios and a number of smaller studios.

What’s in a name? Blu ray derives its name from the technology involved. The term Blue-ray was obtained by combining the “Blue” in blue-violet laser and the “Ray” in optical ray.

More about Blu-ray: Blu-ray technology was designed to support the demand for recording and playing high-definition content. The various formats of the Blu-ray Disc are BD-ROM, a read-only format, BD-R, a recordable format, and BD-RE, a rewritable format.

Related Products: Several companies have been manufacturing Blu-ray players for some time now. Some are backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs. Blu-ray Recorders that are capable of playing back pre-recorded video on a disc while simultaneously recording high-definition video from TV are also being sold.

With more and more people switching to HDTV, Blu-ray is definitely here to stay.

Get Rid of All That Clutter – Use the Logitech Harmony 890 Remote Control

February 11, 2009

If I had to list all the electronic gadgets that I use at home, it would run for more than a couple of lines, which would not be a very good use of this blog space. So to keep it short, being extremely absentminded, I often find myself searching for one remote or the other. The TV remote is invariably under the sofa, the DVD player’s remote is never to be found, and every time I want play the Wii, I have to hunt down its control. It really gets annoying after a point. This is when my friend introduced me to the Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote and it truly is a life saver.

The Logitech Harmony 890 Remote Control is such a convenient device. It is compatible with nearly 175,000 products from 5,000 brands. It is the latest version of Logitech’s previous model, the Harmony 880 Remote Control. The Logitech Harmony 890 LCD Remote Control can be installed using the advanced setup wizard. Just plug it into any available USB port on your PC, answer a few easy questions, and you will be taken through a step-by-step process to complete the set up.

How does it work?

The Harmony 890 Pro Universal Remote works on both radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR) wireless signals. It is capable of working in a wireless range up to 100 feet. When you operate the remote, it sends RF commands to a wireless receiver, which in turn passes the infrared signals to the device you’ve chosen. It works on Logitech’s patented Smart State Technology, which lets you access any system when you press the Activity button.

What are its features?

The LCD displays color icons, text, and eight activity buttons to help you choose an activity. If you get confused while using it, the “Help” button is always there to bail you out. The backlit display allows you to read the display clearly even in the dark.

Life is so much simpler with the Logitech Harmony 890 LCD Remote Control.

Get More Out of Your Wii with CTA Accessories

February 11, 2009

To say that Wii is popular among kids and teenagers would be a gross understatement; in fact even adults are part of the Wii fan club. So if you happen to hear stories of parents competing with their kids for the Nunchuk, you better believe it. Banking on the popularity of the Wii console video games, a number of Wii accessories have flooded the market, among which, CTA digital accessories are extremely popular. I’ll try to include as many as I can in this post.

The CTA Wii Multifunction Gun can be used to fire virtual rounds of ammunition. Deliver the knockout punch with the CTA Digital Boxing Gloves. For an authentic gaming experience you can choose from a whole lot of fun CTA digital Wii accessories like Pompoms, Maracas, Laser Sword, Ping Pong Paddles, Family Trainer Mat, Fishing Rod, and the Racer Steering Wheel.

The 4-in-1 Indiglow Cooling Stand for Wii will act as stand as well as a cooling system for the Wii console. CTA also has a Game Disc Stand with 12 slots to neatly organize all your favorite Wii games. Avoid too many messy wires from getting in the way by opting for the wireless sensor bar. To charge your Wii remotes you can choose Dual Charge Stations with Dual Nunchuk holders.

Go for soft silicone sleeves to protect the Wii remote and Nunchuck in different colors such as black and pink. To reduce the stress on your fingers while playing you can choose a soft rubber controller grip for the remote or wear the grip-it-all glove to give you great comfort.

Finally, for carrying along the Wii while going on a trip or even transporting it, you can carry it in the Multi Function Carry Bag along with the gaming CDs. Either carry it with the handle or throw it over your shoulder with the strap. The remote and the Nunchuk can be carefully stored or transported in the Controller Crystal Case.

The Sleek and Shiny Black iPod nano

February 4, 2009

Shiny Black iPod nano I’ve used the iPod shuffle for the past two years and was quite happy with it. My only concern was that I could not store too many songs in it as it has a capacity of just 1 GB. But guess what I got as a birthday present last month? A brand new, sleek Apple iPod nano (8GB black). This Apple iPod is a 4th generation digital media player. The black nano is among Apple’s nine nano-chromatic colors, including silver, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink.

The Apple iPod nano 8GB black is the thinnest of all the four generations of iPod nanos and has a curved anodized aluminum body. It sports a 2″ widescreen, LED backlight display. And with its 8GB capacity memory it can hold nearly 2000 songs. I’ve only downloaded about 800 songs, so it really seems endless. Here is a list of all the great things I can do with my Apple iPod nano portable media player.

Music: Listening to music it such an experience. To switch between songs, all I do is give it a little shake and it rearranges the play list. I use the Genius feature to create playlists featuring similar songs.

Videos: From movie clips to Podcasts and my favorite Friends episodes, everything looks brilliant on the 320 x 240 resolution display.

Photos: The Apple MB754LL/A iPod MP3 player can sync photos in JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and PNG formats. These images can be viewed in either landscape or portrait format.

Games: I thoroughly enjoy playing games on the Apple iPod nano 8GB black. It originally came loaded with a single game, Maze. Later I accessed iTunes to find and downloaded games like Monopoly, Uno, and Sudoku.

The Apple iPod nano portable media player keeps me entertained for hours and hours together and is one gift that I will cherish forever.

The 2nd Generation iPod touch – Better than the Best

January 29, 2009

In my previous post, we saw many great features of the first generation Apple iPod touch. On September 9, 2008 Apple released the advanced version of the iPod touch. Just like its predecessor, the 2nd generation Apple iPod touch digital media player is also loaded with many great features. In addition, it also has some newly enhanced functions to increase its appeal.

On the outside: The new Apple iPod touch portable media player features a sleekly contoured metal design. With rounded edges, it has a curved and compact design. Weighing just 4.05 ounces, it is lighter than the previous model. All these add up to the fact that the new iPod touch is more comfortable to carry around. The Apple MB528LL/A iPod touch MP3 player has volume controls on the top left side, providing easy access to the frequently used buttons. In my opinion, the best part has to be the built-in speakers, which means that you need not have to plug in the earphones every single time.

On the inside: iPod touch users no longer need to pay for an upgradation. The Apple MB528LL/A iPod touch MP3 player comes with iPod software version 2.1.1, so you no longer need to upgrade the software to gain access to the online App Store. The App store features a whole lot of iPod touch games and applications. These applications cover a series of topics – education, social networking, travel, photography, news, weather, lifestyle, and a lot more. iPod touch also comes with a Genius feature that creates playlists with similar songs. Who needs a DJ when you have the Genius? The new iPod touch now has a built-in Nike + iPod support. When you train with the Nike+iPod sensor in place, details like time, distance, and calories burned can be tracked. When you sync the iPod to iTunes, these details can also be transferred to nikeplus.com so that you can track your fitness goals.

Battery life: It has an extended battery life, which is quite impressive. When fully charged you can listen up to 36 hours of music and songs or watch videos and movies for up to 6 hours.

Cost: Priced lower than the first generation iPod touch, this Apple iPod touch digital media player will not pinch your pocket.

If you’ve been planning to buy yourself an Apple iPod touch portable media player, now would be a great time to get one. Enjoy!

Sennheiser HD595 – A Treat for Music Lovers

January 21, 2009

Any music lover will agree with me that to fully appreciate a favorite piece of music or song, the audio output must be of the highest quality. Otherwise listening to music, which normally is an enjoyable activity, would become tedious. When you add the noise and interference from outside, it might even become an unpleasant experience.

This is exactly why audiophiles out there will love the Sennheiser HD-595 premier headphone. It is a circumaural headphone, meaning that it goes over the head to completely cover both the ears. Sennheiser HD595 stereo headphones are equipped with Ergonomic Acoustic Refinement (E.A.R.) that enables ideal sound by channeling the audio signal directly into your ears. The presence of advanced Duofol diaphragms adds to the effect. These diaphragms are designed with a geometry that completely cuts down on the intermodulatory sound distortion. Total harmonic distortion is brought down by the compressed cellulose fleece. Lightweight aluminum voice coils also help in the efficient transmission of sound.

I just love the feel of this Sennheiser HD-595 premier headphone. The ear pads are covered with soft velour and headband is crafted from supple leatherette. They are so comfortable that once I put them on I never want to take them off. Even after listening for hours on end, I never experience any sort of discomfort. These HD 595 consumer headphones are sold along with a headphone holder. This can be easily mounted either horizontally or vertically on the shelf or table. So when not in use, the HD 595 can be hung on this headphone holder. This Sennheiser HD-595 premier headphone comes with a 10-foot cable to facilitate movement. It also includes a gold plated 6.3mm stereo jack and a 3.5mm adapter.

From hardcore rock to soft classical melodies and everything in between, the Sennheiser HD595 stereo headphone will make your listening experience more enjoyable, every single time. Trust me; you will never tire of them.
